Hi everyone! I just wanted to jump on quick for a short update on Ollie.
Our day started at the hospital at around 9:30 am. By 11 am Ollie’s surgeon came to speak with us about surgical approach and had a few minutes to play Ollie’s video game with him. It totally made Ollie’s day and was super sweet.
They gave Ollie some sleepy medication and then were able to wheel him back. That was about 11:45 am. By 3:00 pm Ollie was out of surgery and we were able to chat with his surgeon. Dr. Afshar was able to remove a good portion of the malformation. Ollie will be swollen for about 2-3 months since his lymphatic channels are already misshapen, it will take a while to drain.
Ollie didn’t wake up for a good hour and a half post surgery and was very weepy when he did come to. He really struggles coming out anesthesia and with the pressure dressing on his face, it was making him very agitated. We finally made it up to our room at about 5:30 pm and got him settled. He has been able to eat soft foods and is resting comfortably now.
Since we will be staying in the city for a few more days, it sounds like they will likely discharge us tomorrow at some point. The main goal is for us to keep that pressure dressing on as well as ice often. This little man is such a trooper and we could not be prouder.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers, support and words of encouragement, it has meant the world. I will keep updating you all in our progress here but for tonight, I am cuddling this little man as much as he will let me!
- No post op pictures, since he is super self conscious of how he looks. Maybe someday he will let me share but for now here are some cute ones of before surgery.
